The Burden of Foreknowledge / Roli Books (2007)

Headshot of Jawahara Saidullah

A writer since... always.

Jawahara Khadija Saidullah has been a writer since… always. However, she’s also indecisive so she has vacillated between writing novels, non-fiction, short stories, flash fiction, and essays. Basically, she writes whatever captures her attention. In late 2022, she discovered a new passion when she created and launched, Kissa: A Storytelling Podcast.

A novel, The Burden of Foreknowledge, was published in 2007 by Roli (India) Books. After this, she returned to shorter works while intermittently working on longer projects. In 2023, Jawahara’s novel, Where the Rivers Meet will be published by Tara (India) Press. In March 2024, her historical memoir, We Are… Warrior Queens will be published by Scarsdale Publishing.

Jawahara’s writing has appeared in anthologies, magazines, and journals. In a previous incarnation she was a weekly columnist for Mid-Day Newspaper in Mumbai (India) with a readership of over one million. She was a featured writer on the (now defunct) popular South Asian writing website www.chowk.com and recently came full circle, when she became a regular contributor to Medium.
